πŸš€ Chapter 11

11.1

Life Without Gravity

Astronaut Sunita Williams spent time aboard a spacecraft where there is almost no gravity. Without gravity pulling things down, loose objects β€” and even hair β€” simply float.

1

Why did Sunita's hair stand up and float instead of falling down, as it does on Earth?

Because there is no (or almost no) gravity in space to pull her hair downward, so it floats freely instead

11.2

Seeing the Earth from Space

From space, the Earth looks like a round, blue-and-white ball with no lines or borders β€” the political boundaries between countries that we draw on maps don't actually exist on the ground.

1

Can an astronaut looking down at Earth from space see the lines marking country borders?

No β€” country borders are not physical lines on the ground, they're boundaries humans have agreed on, so they aren't visible from space
