2.1

Points, Line Segments, Rays, and Lines

A point marks a location. A line segment connects two points with a fixed length. A ray starts at a point and goes on forever in one direction. A line goes on forever in both directions.

1

What is the key difference between a ray and a line segment?

A ray extends infinitely in one direction; a line segment has two fixed endpoints

2

If a torch shines a beam of light, is that beam better modeled as a line, a ray, or a line segment?

A ray — it starts at the torch and extends outward in one direction

2.2

Types of Angles

An angle is formed where two rays meet at a point. Angles are classified by their measure: acute (less than 90°), right (exactly 90°), obtuse (between 90° and 180°), straight (exactly 180°), and reflex (more than 180°).

1

What type of angle is 150°?

Obtuse angle

2

What type of angle is 200°?

Reflex angle
