Master multiplying and dividing fractions, including mixed numbers, to close out Part 1 of the book.
To multiply fractions, multiply the numerators together and the denominators together, then simplify. For mixed numbers, first convert to improper fractions.
Find: 2/3 × 3/5
6/15 = 2/5 (simplified)
Find: 1½ × 2/3
Convert 1½ to 3/2, then 3/2 × 2/3 = 6/6 = 1
To divide by a fraction, multiply by its reciprocal (flip the second fraction and multiply instead of dividing).
Find: 3/4 ÷ 2/5
3/4 × 5/2 = 15/8 = 1⅞
Find: 2⅓ ÷ 1/2
Convert 2⅓ to 7/3, then 7/3 × 2/1 = 14/3 = 4⅔
1. Find: 3/5 × 4/7
2. Find: 2¼ × 2/3
3. Find: 5/6 ÷ 3/4
4. Find: 3½ ÷ 1/4
