Chapter 3 · CBSE Class 9 Science (NCERT Exploration)

Tissues in Action

Cells don't usually work alone — groups of similar cells team up to form tissues, each specialised for a particular job.

🧬 Chapter 3

3.1

Plant Tissues

Meristematic tissue consists of actively dividing cells found at growing regions (like root and shoot tips), while permanent tissue is made of cells that have stopped dividing and taken on a specialised role.

1

Why is meristematic tissue mainly found at the tips of roots and shoots?

Because that's where active cell division happens, allowing the plant to grow longer at those points

3.2

Animal Tissues

Animals have four main tissue types: epithelial (covering and lining surfaces), connective (supporting and connecting body parts), muscular (enabling movement), and nervous (transmitting signals).

1

Which tissue type is responsible for enabling body movement, like the contraction of your arm muscles?

Muscular tissue

2

Which tissue type lines the inside of your mouth and covers your skin?

Epithelial tissue

Practice

Exercises

1. Where in a plant is meristematic tissue mainly found?

2. Name the four main types of animal tissue.

3. Which tissue type would you find lining your blood vessels?

4. Which tissue type carries signals from your brain to your muscles?

5. Why does a tissue's structure usually relate closely to its function?
