2.1

Parts of a Flower

A flower has petals (often colourful, to attract pollinators), sepals (protect the bud), stamens (male part, produce pollen), and a pistil (female part, contains the ovary).

1

What is the male reproductive part of a flower called?

The stamen

2

What is the female reproductive part of a flower called?

The pistil

2.2

Pollination and Fertilisation

Pollination is the transfer of pollen from the stamen to the pistil. Self-pollination occurs within the same flower; cross-pollination occurs between different flowers.

1

What is the difference between self-pollination and cross-pollination?

Self-pollination transfers pollen within the same flower or plant, while cross-pollination transfers pollen between different plants

2

What develops from the ovary after fertilisation?

The fruit, with seeds developing from the ovules inside
