Chapter 5 · ICSE Class 7 Biology (Selina Concise)

Excretion in Humans

Understand excretion — the removal of waste products from the body — and the organs involved.

5.1

Organs of Excretion

The kidneys filter blood to remove waste as urine. The skin excretes waste through sweat. The lungs excrete carbon dioxide.

1

What organ filters blood to produce urine?

The kidneys

2

What waste product do the lungs excrete?

Carbon dioxide

5.2

Why Excretion is Necessary

Excretion removes toxic waste products of metabolism from the body, preventing them from building up to harmful levels.

1

What would happen if waste products weren't removed from the body?

They would build up to toxic levels and could poison the body's cells and tissues

2

Is sweating only about cooling the body, or does it serve another function?

It also serves excretion, removing some waste products like excess salts and urea through the skin
