Section A — Multiple Choice Questions (10 marks)
Q1. B. watt

Power = work/time; 1 watt = 1 joule per second.

Q2. C. 50 J

W = F × s = 10 × 5 = 50 J.

Q3. B. 4

MA = load/effort = 200/50 = 4.

Q4. A. 2 × 10⁸ m/s

v = c/n = 3 × 10⁸/1.5 = 2 × 10⁸ m/s.

Q5. B. +2 D

P = 1/f (in metres) = 1/0.5 = +2 D.

Q6. B. 200 J

H = I²Rt = 4 × 5 × 10 = 200 J.

Q7. A. live wire

The fuse is placed in the live wire so that the appliance is cut off from the supply when it blows.

Q8. C. gamma

Gamma rays penetrate most and are stopped only by thick lead or concrete.

Q9. B. ultrasonic

Above 20,000 Hz is ultrasound, beyond human hearing.

Q10. B. 8000 J

Q = mcΔT = 2 × 400 × 10 = 8000 J.

Section B — Fill in the Blanks & True / False (8 marks)
Q11. 3.6 × 10⁶

1 kW × 3600 s = 3,600,000 J.

Q12. dioptre

P = 1/f with f in metres.

Q13. True

For a real object, a concave lens always gives a virtual, erect, smaller image.

Q14. False

Gamma rays are neutral electromagnetic waves, so they are not deflected.

Q15. 50

Domestic supply in India is 220–240 V at 50 Hz.

Q16. red

Red has the longest wavelength and the smallest deviation; violet is deviated the most.

Q17. True

Light must go from a denser to a rarer medium.

Section C — Short Answer Questions (16 marks)
Q19. 2.25 × 10⁸ m/s
  1. v = c/n.
  2. v = 3 × 10⁸ ÷ (4/3) = 2.25 × 10⁸ m/s.
Q20. 0.5 kWh
  1. Energy = power × time = 0.1 kW × 5 h.
  2. = 0.5 kWh.
Q21. 30 N
  1. Principle of lever: effort × effort arm = load × load arm.
  2. E × 60 = 90 × 20, so E = 1800/60 = 30 N.
Q22. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed
  1. Energy cannot be created or destroyed; it only changes from one form to another.
  2. The total energy of an isolated system remains constant.
Q23. Alpha, beta and gamma
  1. α-particles are helium nuclei.
  2. β-particles are fast electrons and γ-rays are electromagnetic radiation.

  1. Q = mL.
  2. Q = 0.1 × 336 = 33.6 kJ.
Q26. v = +30 cm; m = −1
