Answers & Worked Solutions

Check your paper, then read the solutions for the questions you missed.

Section A — Multiple Choice Questions (10 marks)
Q1. B. 200 Pa

Pressure = force/area = 100/0.5 = 200 Pa.

Q2. B. pancreas

The pancreas makes insulin, which lowers blood sugar.

Q3. B. dilute hydrochloric acid

Zn + 2HCl → ZnCl₂ + H₂.

Q4. B. methane

Methane, CH₄.

Q5. C. green plants

Green plants make their own food by photosynthesis.

Q6. C. 4

Two atria and two ventricles.

Q7. A. 1 kWh

Energy = 0.1 kW × 10 h = 1 kWh (one unit).

Q8. B. positively charged

The glass loses electrons to the silk, so it becomes positive.

Q9. C. sum of protons and neutrons

Mass number = protons + neutrons.

Q10. B. oviduct (fallopian tube)

The sperm and ovum usually meet in the oviduct.

Section B — Fill in the Blanks & True / False (8 marks)
Q11. pituitary

It controls several other endocrine glands.

Q12. True

It is the lightest gas known.

Q13. barometer

Mercury and aneroid barometers are common.

Q14. False

Sound needs a material medium.

Q15. xylem

Phloem carries food.

Q16. pascal

1 Pa = 1 N/m².

Q17. False

Conduction needs matter; only radiation can pass through a vacuum.

Q18. electroscope

The leaves of a gold-leaf electroscope diverge when charged.

Section C — Short Answer Questions (16 marks)
Q19. 2H₂ + O₂ → 2H₂O
  1. Put 2 before H₂O to balance oxygen.
  2. Then 2 before H₂ to balance hydrogen: 2H₂ + O₂ → 2H₂O.
Q20. 9 kWh
  1. Energy per day = 0.06 kW × 5 h = 0.3 kWh.
