Section A — Multiple Choice Questions (10 marks)
Q1. A. √2

√2 cannot be written as p/q with integers p, q (q ≠ 0), so it is irrational. The others are rational.

Q2. B. 4

2³ × 2⁴ = 2⁷; 2⁷ ÷ 2⁵ = 2² = 4.

Q3. C. 3

1000 = 10³, so log₁₀ 1000 = 3.

Q4. B. x² − 8x + 16

(a − b)² = a² − 2ab + b² gives x² − 8x + 16.

Q5. C. (x + 4)(x − 4)

x² − 16 = x² − 4² = (x + 4)(x − 4), a difference of two squares.

Q6. A. 10 cm

h² = 6² + 8² = 36 + 64 = 100, so h = 10 cm.

Q7. B. 1/2

From the standard table, sin 30° = 1/2.

Q8. B. 5

d = √(3² + 4²) = √25 = 5.

Q9. B. 8

Sum = 40, number of values = 5, mean = 40 ÷ 5 = 8.

Q10. B. 540°

Sum = (n − 2) × 180° = 3 × 180° = 540°.

Section B — Fill in the Blanks & True / False (8 marks)
Q11. 1

Any non-zero number raised to the power 0 equals 1.

Q12. 2

6 + 3y = 12 → 3y = 6 → y = 2.

Q13. 1

sin 45° = cos 45°, so tan 45° = 1.

Q14. True

An integer n can be written as n/1, so it is rational.

Q15. False

The correct rule is log(ab) = log a + log b.

Q16. 7

The values are already in order; the middle (3rd) value is 7.

Q17. True

In a rectangle the diagonals are equal in length and bisect each other.

Q18. (4, 6)

((2 + 6)/2, (4 + 8)/2) = (4, 6).

Section C — Short Answer Questions (16 marks)
Q19. 8
  1. 16 = 2⁴, so 16^(3/4) = (2⁴)^(3/4).
  2. Multiply the indices: 2^(4 × 3/4) = 2³ = 8.
Q20. 4x² + 12x + 9
  1. Use (a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b² with a = 2x, b = 3.
  2. (2x)² + 2(2x)(3) + 3² = 4x² + 12x + 9.
Q21. (x + 3)(x + 4)
  1. Find two numbers with product 12 and sum 7: 3 and 4.
  2. x² + 3x + 4x + 12 = x(x + 3) + 4(x + 3) = (x + 3)(x + 4).
Q22. x = 3, y = 2
  1. Add the equations: 3x = 9, so x = 3.
  2. Put x = 3 in x + y = 5: y = 2.
  3. Check: 2(3) − 2 = 4 ✓.
Q23. 5
  1. Write 32 as a power of 2: 32 = 2⁵.
  2. So log₂ 32 = 5.
Q24. 12 cm
  1. Other leg² = 13² − 5² = 169 − 25 = 144.
  2. Other leg = √144 = 12 cm.
Q25. 5 units
  1. d = √[(4 − 1)² + (6 − 2)²] = √(9 + 16).
  2. d = √25 = 5.
Q26. 9.5
  1. Arrange in order: 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 15 (6 values).
  2. For an even number of values, median = average of the 3rd and 4th = (9 + 10)/2 = 9.5.
Section D — Problem Solving (16 marks)
Q27. x = 4, y = 2
  1. Add the equations to eliminate y: 8x = 32, so x = 4.
  2. Substitute in 3x + 2y = 16: 12 + 2y = 16, so y = 2.
  3. Verify: 5(4) − 2(2) = 20 − 4 = 16 ✓.
Q28. (a) ≈ 8.65 m (b) 5 m
  1. Height = 10 sin 60° = 10 × √3/2 = 5√3.
  2. 5 × 1.73 = 8.65 m (a).
  3. Distance of foot = 10 cos 60° = 10 × 1/2 = 5 m (b).
Q29. ₹1,680
  1. Amount = P(1 + R/100)ⁿ = 8,000 × (1.1)².
  2. (1.1)² = 1.21, so Amount = 8,000 × 1.21 = ₹9,680.
  3. Compound interest = Amount − Principal = 9,680 − 8,000 = ₹1,680.
Q30. (a) 84 cm² (b) 12 cm
  1. s = (13 + 14 + 15)/2 = 21 cm.
  2. Area = √[s(s − a)(s − b)(s − c)] = √(21 × 8 × 7 × 6) = √7056 = 84 cm² (a).
  3. Area = ½ × base × height ⇒ 84 = ½ × 14 × h ⇒ h = 12 cm (b).
