Length, weight, and capacity all use the same idea โ bigger units are made of smaller ones. Drag the slider and watch a length convert between units live.
Try it: set the slider to 100 cm โ that's exactly 1 metre.
Length can be measured in different sized units, from tiny (millimetres) to huge (kilometres). Each unit is a fixed multiple of the next.
Weight is measured in grams (g) for lighter things and kilograms (kg) for heavier things.
1000 g = 1 kg
Convert 2500 g to kg. Divide by 1000.
2500 g = 2.5 kg
Convert 3.2 kg to grams. Multiply by 1000.
3.2 kg = 3200 g
Capacity (how much liquid something holds) is measured in millilitres (mL) for small amounts and litres (L) for larger amounts.
1000 mL = 1 L
Convert 1500 mL to litres. Divide by 1000.
1500 mL = 1.5 L
A rope is 3 m 40 cm long. Another rope is 1 m 25 cm long. Find the total length.
3 m 40 cm + 1 m 25 cm = 4 m 65 cm
2 kg 700 g + 1 kg 500 g. Add the grams first: 700 + 500 = 1200 g = 1 kg 200 g.
2 kg 700 g + 1 kg 500 g = 4 kg 200 g
