🔢 Chapter 1

1.1

Reading and Writing Large Numbers

Large numbers are grouped using commas to make them easier to read, following either the Indian system (lakh, crore) or the international system (thousand, million).

1

Write 5,07,08,096 in words using the Indian place value system.

Five crore seven lakh eight thousand ninety-six

2

Write 23,456,789 in words using the international place value system.

Twenty-three million four hundred fifty-six thousand seven hundred eighty-nine

1.2

Rounding Large Numbers

Rounding a large number to a certain place (like the nearest thousand or lakh) makes it easier to work with while staying close to the actual value.

1

Round off 84,73,915 to the nearest lakh.

84,73,915 is closer to 85,00,000 than 84,00,000, so it rounds to 85,00,000

2

Round off 3,456 to the nearest hundred.

3,456 is closer to 3,500 than 3,400, so it rounds to 3,500
