Chapter 13 · ICSE Class 9 Mathematics (Selina Concise)

Rectilinear Figures

Study the properties of quadrilaterals — parallelograms, rectangles, rhombuses, squares, and trapeziums.

◻️ Chapter 13

A quadrilateral with both diagonals drawn A four-sided shape with its two diagonals drawn connecting opposite corners, and small arcs marking the four interior angles Angle sum = 360°
13.1

Parallelogram Properties

In a parallelogram, opposite sides are equal and parallel, opposite angles are equal, and diagonals bisect each other.

1

In parallelogram ABCD, angle A=110°. Find angle C and angle B.

Angle C=110° (opposite angle equal); angle B=180−110=70° (co-interior)

2

A parallelogram has diagonal AC=14 cm. Where does the other diagonal intersect it?

At its midpoint, 7 cm from each end, since diagonals bisect each other

13.2

Special Quadrilaterals

A rectangle has all angles 90° with equal diagonals. A rhombus has all sides equal with perpendicular diagonals. A square combines both. A trapezium has only one pair of parallel sides.

1

A quadrilateral has all sides equal and diagonals bisecting at 90°. What is it?

A rhombus

2

A trapezium has parallel sides 8 cm and 14 cm. What is special about a trapezium compared to a parallelogram?

A trapezium has only one pair of parallel sides, while a parallelogram has two pairs
